Project 2 – Week 1 – Premise Brief

Unit 2.1 Advanced and Experimental 3D Computer Animation Techniques – Project 2, week 1.

This post includes some personal notes about my thought process while getting started with the project.

Early Design Notes

I will use my previously made dog model and rig from the first animation project.

Staging – having the character react to events/actions/ people/narrative that are outside of the screen. Hardly ever seen and only heard, built an impression of them using sound effects and interaction with the on-screen protagonist.

Explain setting plan- a simple design using Maya’s Arnold materials, or an online texture that I can import onto a simple background. The setting will be on a loop, perhaps using lattice animations in an oval shape/ on some sort of tread mill that repeats the texture when the character walks. The character will be fixed to a point with the story moving around it. Perhaps will need biped character legs and walk cycle to show the off-screen character. That way the audience can see where the dialogue is coming from.

Final Major Project Notes

A dog walking behind elderly man. as the man talks to himself, the dog simply reacts/ interacts with him. Does the man have psychological issues talking to himself, or is he speaking to the dog as though he is a human and can speak back?
